“ Final Bachelor Project about informative wallpaper ”

I have used my final bachelor project as is an opportunity to explore the field of calm technology and in particular the direction of Information Decoration. During this project I have been looking at how to use wallpaper as a means to visualize information. Information Decoration -a direction within the field of calm technology- is a reaction against the large amount of displays nowadays. This direction aims for a balance between informative and aesthetic quality. The information is being displayed in such a way that it is unobtrusive for the user and can be neglected for the ones who are not interested.

Between you, me and the wall gives you an impression of your life and all your upcoming plans. When looking at this wallpaper you will get an overview of important, exciting or special moments mapped over a longer period of time. This way the wall decoration gives you the opportunity to create anticipatory pleasure, in addition it can be a great mnemonic device to help you remember important dates. Since the data is being presented in an abstract way, other people will only perceive it as decoration.

Final wallpaper design


Silk-screen printing technique together with thermochromic ink was used to make the final prototype of the concept


For the final prototype, I have made use of heat elements to be able to control the pattern of the wallpaper (thermochromic ink changes color when exceeding a certain temperature).
